What You'll Do
As the Lead Data Scientist, you will oversee a team of analysts and engineers to develop predictive models that enhance census coverage and accuracy for the 2026 cycle. You will bridge the gap between complex statistical theory and actionable policy insights.
Responsibilities
- Lead Model Development: Design, implement, and validate complex machine learning models to predict census undercount rates and optimize survey sampling methodologies.
- Strategic Vision: Define the long-term data science roadmap for the 2026 Census, ensuring alignment with federal statistical standards and privacy regulations.
- Team Leadership: Mentor a diverse team of data scientists and statisticians, fostering a culture of innovation and rigorous analytical standards.

Qualifications
- Education: PhD or Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of experience in data science, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the government, research, or large-scale data analytics sector.
- Technical Skills: Deep proficiency in Python (PyTorch, TensorFlow), R, SQL, and big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop).
- Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of survey methodology, demographic analysis, and statistical inference.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous, high-stakes problems using data-driven approaches.
